Course Improvements and changes

Course Improvements and changes

Members,

Over the last few weeks your committee has implemented a few changes to improve our course. These changes are as follows:

New Drop Zones:

There are new drop zones on the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 16th holes. There is a full explanation, location and description of ruling on the notice board in the Spike Bar hallway. Please take the time to check these as it will not only help your game, but hopefully speed play as well.

Distance Markers

The unsightly 150m and 100m poles have been removed at the request of our hard working ground staff and will be replaced with fairway distance “plates”. The decision to remove these was not taken lightly, but with most players having access to distance measuring devices and all sprinkler heads displaying distance it was considered a fair agreement.

Hole of the day

There are now black sand containers that will be placed on the “hole of the day”. I urge all members to utilise these as they contain a mixture of both sand and seed. They will be located roughly half way along the fairway (both sides) and give all members a chance to assist Shane and his team in helping improve our fairways. Using them to repair not only your own divot but others that you see will go a long way to making our course great. Please do not forget that divots in the rough need to be repaired as well as on the fairway. Also, pitch marks on the greens are quickly becoming a problem again, repair them when you see them (even if not yours) while waiting to putt. Our greens are in great condition at the moment and this will only make them better

Good Golfing

Increase in Pro Comp Fees

Increase in Pro Comp Fees

Dear Members,

Due to ever increasing costs of running a business, the pro competition fee will increase to $12 as of the 1st of July 2018.

Originally it was planned to increase in January, but this was held off for the past 6 months.

This is the second increase we have had over the past 15 years. The prize schedules will reflect this change with extra prize values awarded.

On behalf of the great Pro Shop team that we have at Gungahlin Lakes GC, I thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Murray Blair

Club Professional

Comp fees at other clubs:

  • Queanbeyan $12
  • Yowani $14
  • Federal $13

Revised Local rule “Preferred Lies” closely mown areas only

Revised Local rule “Preferred Lies” closely mown areas only

Apologies to all members for the change AGAIN to the local rule. Upon investigation the Captain and Match Committee have revised the local rule back to include “closely mown areas only”

The “Preferred lies” local rule will be (as before):

A ball lying on closely mown areas may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, he/she must place it on a spot within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green.

A player may place his ball only once, and it is in play when it has been placed (Rule 20-4). If the ball fails to come to rest on the spot on which it was placed, Rule 20-3 applies. If the ball when placed comes to rest on the spot on which it is placed and it subsequently moves, there is no penalty and the ball must be played as it lies, unless the provisions of any other Rule apply.

If the player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it, moves the ball-marker prior to putting the ball back into play or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he/she incurs a penalty of one stroke.
