Green Care

Green Care

The new rule of putting with the flag in has improved the pace of play but has raised another issue that needs to be addressed.

There seems to be a growing number of players that are unaware of the damage that they are causing.

Firstly under no circumstances it it appropriate to retrieve your ball from the hole with the head of your putter.

Secondly, do not pull the flag out with a ball in the hole, this can pull the insert up and disadvantage players following you.

Please also take the time to repair any pitch marks that you see on the green. Our course is in a lot better condition than most clubs in the area and we would really like to keep it in the best condition for all our members.

Practice swing in the bunker?

Practice swing in the bunker?

The new Rules of Golf were introduced on 1 January 2019 with some substantial changes.

Some of the rules have created confusion, and to avoid players inadvertently being penalised we will be regularly posting some news about rules that may be misunderstood.

One rule that appears to have created some confusion is the ability to ground your club in a bunker.

The new rules do allow you to ground your club, BUT, you are not allowed to touch the sand with your club:

  • by grounding directly in front or directly behind the ball
  • in the backswing to the stroke; or
  • in a practice swing.

The Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club Annual Report 2018……..

The Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club Annual Report 2018……..

Members

Please find a link below to the Golf Club’s 2018 Annual Report for your information and review prior to the Annual General meeting scheduled for 7.00pm on Tuesday evening in the Spike Bar. I will have around 30 hard copies of the report at the meeting for the convenience of those who attend but the Report can be easily loaded onto your device via the link where this is more convenient for you.

We plan to meet in the Spike Bar at 6.30pm for a drink and snacks prior to the meeting. The bar will close at 7.00pm when the meeting commences but will reopen for around 30 minutes after the meeting. I expect the meeting to go for around one hour.

The meeting is a good opportunity for you to hear from Committee members and for members who attend, to ask questions and or raise any issues of concern.

I look forward to seeing those of you that can spare the time at the meeting.

Regards

Richard Oliver
President
