Penalty Area’s

Penalty Area’s

Over the coming weeks you will see some changes to how our current penalty area’s are marked. To assist our ground staff, we will be removing the red stakes and progressively marking the penalty area with a line. The Yellow and Blue topped areas will remain as they are at present.

Just for clarification

penalty area is:

  • Any body of water on the course (whether or not marked by the Committee), including a sea, lake, pond, river, ditch, surface drainage ditch or other open watercourse (even if not containing water), and
  • Any other part of the course the Committee defines as a penalty area.

If the colour of a penalty area has not been marked or indicated by the Committee, it is treated as a red penalty area.

When the edge of a body of water is not defined by stakes or line, the edge of that penalty area is defined by its natural boundaries (that is, where the ground slopes down to form the depression that can hold the water)

Rules will remain the same, if there is no line marked, the drop can be taken two club lengths from the edge of the penalty area as defined above.

Course restoration

Course restoration

After a shocking dry period, Shane and his staff are now commencing a course restoration plan.

Approximately 4 tonnes of rye seed is being sown into the fairways and tees, with a number of fairways also being sown with a special grass to deter birds from feeding. The seed needs to be kept wet as it germinates, which means the irrigation will be coming on at various times of the day. Unfortunately, this means the seed becomes sticky and will be moved by tyres, buggy wheels, shoes, etc.

This is where we need your help.

Firstly, we ask that you are all mindful of your own actions while we try to reestablish the fairways – carry plenty of sand and fill your divots, reduce unnecessary practice swings that take divots, and generally be mindful of your actions while on the fairways. Secondly please be vigilant and help us to ensure that no carts are driven on fairways for the next month – if you see someone on the fairways please politely ask them to stick to the paths and the rough. Doing these few small things will give our course the best change to recover, and hopefully be better than ever.
