Trial of MiScore App

Trial of MiScore App

The GLGC Committee is currently exploring a range of options to upgrade our computer and scoring systems and has agreed to trial the use of the MiScore smartphone app for a period of around two months. This is one of a number of options being considered to improve both the efficiency of managing score cards and the experience of players in scoring and finalising their rounds.

It was previously decided not to trial MiScore as there was no capacity for a player to score their own round on their own phone. This made the app incompatible with other actions implemented to help protect members during the COVID-19 crisis. Following recent changes that allow players to score their own round it was agreed to participate in the trial. We ask that all members choosing to use the app use the self score functionality.

Members can download the MiScore app to their smart phone from the iTunes and Google Play stores. Further information and instructions can be accessed from the following site: https://www.miclub.com.au/cms/miscore-app/.

To log into the app you are required to select Gungahlin lakes and then enter your user details – these are your 10 digit golflink number and the password you use to access the members only booking page.

At the end of the trial period the Committee will consider feedback from members, pro shop staff and close-out volunteers on how MiScore performed, both on the course and with regard to the administration of competitions. This feedback will be used to help inform a decision on which system upgrades will be implemented.

Please note that MiScore, including its GPS function, runs continuously for the duration of the round. Some members that have found that older phones may not have sufficient battery supply to last a full round. Should you choose to use MiScore, we recommend you take a regular scorecard with you for your first round while you learn how to use the app and how it will affect your phone’s battery.

The passing of one of our long-time female members…

The passing of one of our long-time female members…

All Members

It is with great sadness that I advise of the recent passing of our past member Mary James at the age of 79 years.  Mary joined the club in 1998 with her husband Ron.  Mary was the Ladies Captain in 2002 and 2005.  Ron was on the Greens Committee for two years.  Mary only recently stopped playing golf this year due to poor health.  Mary will be remembered by many of our female members as being a very welcoming and someone who was always interested in everyone’s well-being.  The Club sends their thoughts and wishes to her husband Ron and her daughter Lisa and grand daughters Alana and Zara during this very sad time.  She will be sorely missed by many in our golfing community.

Summary of the outcomes from the Golf Club Committee meeting held on 9 July…

Summary of the outcomes from the Golf Club Committee meeting held on 9 July…

All Members

Below is a summary form the recent 9 July Golf Club Committee meeting:

  • CEO Ainslie has confirmed that the Spike Bar is unlike to return to its normal operation for some months yet.
  • Course maintenance and associated capital budget – A Discussion Paper on proposed capital projects and the associated expenditure has been prepared and discussed with CEO Ainslie. CEO Ainslie will now discuss this with the AFSC Board at their next Board meeting.  When there is agreement to the ongoing work program a summary will be provided to members.  The paper covered the following proposals for expenditure:
    • The further renovations work required in Spring on the fairways.
    • A number of protective screens for our female golfers on holes  where there are safety concern
    • Stump removal or grinding on stumps from where dead trees have been removed
    • Further improvements to the irrigation system
    • Improvements to the safety for residents and players on the 15th and 16th fairways
  • Kiosks – The operation of the scoring Kiosks was discussed at the meeting and with the CEO Ainslie with a view to upgrading both the software and hardware. It is recognised that our arrangements are now older technology and there is a need to improve the efficiency and productivity of the Kiosks.  Action to improve this part of the club will be taken over the coming weeks with a likely move to scanning technology.
  • Capeweed on the course – the growth of this weed on the course was discussed with the committee and with the CEO Ainslie. It is planned to spray the course for this weed in the very early Spring.
  • Preferred lies – the Committee discussed whether the preferred lies should be extended to all mown surfaces. This was not agreed but preferred lies on the close mown surfaces will remain in place until further notice.
  • Pennants proceeding next month, notifications will be posted on Facebook and MiClub closer to date advising members about the games scheduled at our course and therefore the impact on our timesheets.
  • Work on the Club’s 25-year History Project is continuing with all components of the ‘story’ currently being written. The lead contact is Norm Loughton who would welcome a call if members think they can assist
  • The Website refresh project is progressing with the assistance of our Web expert. An audit of the existing pages has been undertaken and a style guide has been developed for what goes onto in the future.  The aim is to make the information provided better and more readable for the reader. Di Carlos is the lead Committee member for this project.

For your information.
