Multi-tee Medley Competition

Multi-tee Medley Competition

On Sunday 8th November the committee has decided to trial a Medley Multi-Tee Competition.

What does this mean?

  1. Medley competition – usually reserved for small fields – means that all tees, Blue, White and Red will be in the one competition. Depending on the entries there will be A Grade, B Grade and possibly C Grade. There will be no separate women’s competition on this day.
  2. Men will have the opportunity to play off either the blue or white tees.
  3. When you check in at the Pro-Shop and pay your competition fees, if you would like to play off the White tees, you will need to inform the Pro Shop staff prior to paying your comp fee.
  4. No action is required If you would like to play off the Blue tee.
  5. Your daily handicap will reflect the tee that you choose to play from. Please make sure you know what your handicap is for the relevant colour before teeing off.
  6. If you are using MiScore, the app will calculate your handicap based on the tee choice.
  7. If you are using a scorecard, this should be printed by the pro shop. Please make sure the handicap is correct on your card for tee of your choice. If it isn’t you will need to manually adjust your handicap on your scorecard or you will be disqualified for signing a card with an incorrect handicap.

Please note, this is a trial run to allow us to understand whether a relatively fair distribution of prizes can be achieved in such an event. If this is successful we hope to introduce more medley and/or multi-tees events for future competitions.

We are very happy to receive any feedback after the event.

Spike Bar Sign in Procedures

Spike Bar Sign In Procedures

With the re-opening of the Spike Bar on Saturdays and Sundays Ainslie have updated their Covid-19 contact tracing requirements for all members and guests who utilise the downstairs facilities.

Details of your visit will now need to be recorded using the “Check in CBR” app (available from Google Store / Apple Store).  To facilitate this process members / guests will need to have downloaded the “Check in CBR” app before using the Spike Bar.  A QR Code will be made available in the Spike Bar, which will need to be scanned in to the “Check in CBR” app.  Members / Guests will then be required to enter relevant contact information through the app.  Please note that the door leading to the main upstairs bar area will remain closed at this stage, so if you choose to use the facilities upstairs you will be required to re-enter your contact information by scanning your membership card at the main entry door.

The “Check in CBR” app has been made available by the ACT Government, and is currently being used across many businesses in the ACT.  The following link provides further information regarding how the app works, its intent and security features.

Members / Guests are reminded that using the “Check in CBR” app and providing the required contact information is mandatory – as it supports the club in managing its requirements under the its Covid-19 Safe Plan.  If you are unable to sign in using the Check in CBR app then members are requested to sign in using their ASFC membership card at the club’s main entry before using the Spike Bar facilities.

The up-coming Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting is scheduled to be held on 24 November at 7.00pm in the Spike Bar.  Think about putting the date and time into your diaries and coming to the meeting.  It is the meeting at which the Committee gives a fulsome report to members on the year’s activities and the financial position of the Club. The formal Notice of Meeting can be found at this link – Notice of meeting GLGC.

Nomination for the Golf Club Committee

For those interested, each year we elect a ‘new Committee’ which is announced at the AGM.  Nominations open on Monday 26 October and will close on Monday 9 November.  For a nomination to be accepted you must complete the form here – Committee Nominations form 2020-21 and this must be returned to the Golf Manager at gungahlinlakes@gmail.com by 5.00pm on the closing date (9 November).

If voting is required (more nominations than available positions), we will open the voting on Wednesday 11 November.  Voting will be undertaken electronically by members logging onto the system, as was the process last year.  The CFO Ainslie Group, Stephen Gallacher, is the Returning Officer.  Voting will close at 5.00pm 20 November.  If the number of nominations equals the available positions, there is no requirement for a vote.

The Course

With the completion of the Championships, you will have noticed a huge amount work being done on the Course.  Greens are in the process of being renovated (cored and sanded) with the cores being distributed around the course in areas of need.  Remember, while playing if you land on cores, you should take a drop, away from the area in which cores have been distributed and no closer to the hole.  These areas have had seed added and raked in.  Our thanks to all of the members who turned out to help with the Greens renovations and in particular Ken Wark who managed the work and organised the volunteers.  Our thanks also to Shan and his team for their tireless work in doing all of the early renovations work.  Great job for all of those involved.

Presentation Event

Our presentation day event is scheduled for Saturday 21 November.  The event is normally a shotgun start commencing at 8.30am and concluding with a luncheon at which we present all of the trophies for the various Honour Board events for the year.  We are hoping that the event will proceed as normal this year but, we will provide further advice closer to the date.  Because of the Shotgun start, the field is limited to around 128 players and so I encourage you to book in early when the timesheet is opened.  Lunch will be served in the Spike Bar area and presentations will take place soon after lunch has been served.  Plan to be at the club until around 2.00pm.

Good golfing now the warmer whether is with us.

Richard Oliver/President.
