Update for members – 6 January 2021

All members

Welcome to the 2021 golfing year, hopefully it will be better than 2020 although, in the scheme of things, 2020 was better for golf than for a range of other sports.

The Website – Thanks to the work primarily of Di Carlos and Lauren Calvert (….and others of course) the refreshed website is ready for upload. The look and feel will largely similar but the content will be tighter, more accurate and there will be a lot less ‘clicks’ involved in getting to the information that you would like to access.  This was one of our (the Committee’s) projects for 2020.  Unfortunately, we need to take the system off-line for some time to do the upload of the new site which will happen tomorrow morning (7 January) between 7.00am and 2.00pm.  If you need to book a game please do this today or be prepared to do it tomorrow afternoon after 2.00pm.  We apologise for the inconvenience.

The Lakeball game– our first official game for the year is generally the Lakeball but we are running our first Monthly medal on Saturday 9 January.  For the Lakeball on 16 January, we have a shotgun start (hit-off 8.30am) to be followed by a sausage sizzle…and yes, there will be plenty of sausages…only ever one ‘Sausagegate’, for those who remember.  Bookings will open at the normal time on Saturday and the field will be limited to 128, because of the shotgun start.  I have no doubt we will have a full field.  Please plan to stay for a drink and a sausage sandwich.  We have asked for the bar to be open at around 12.20 for those who get in early.

The Handbook – the 2021 handbook has been uploaded which gives all the information necessary regarding the club and our playing schedule.  Lots of folks to thanks for their effort on this one but, in particular, Mike Hogben (our Club Vice-Captain) who together with others has put in many hours on the revised book.  We have taken a decision to not print any hard copy of the book this year.  If you want a hard copy, open the pdf version and print it.  From our perspective, it was money (your money) that we didn’t need to spend as in the past we have had copies left over after doing the print run.  You will find the handbook easily on the new website.

Dad’s Army – The Dad’s Army group are always looking for new hands and, at the beginning of the new year, I thought it might be a good time to remind members that we can always do with some new folk.  If you are free on Thursday mornings, feel free to join the groups for some work on the course.  We generally start at 8.00am and finish at 12.00pm.  If you want more information contact Ken Wark and he will give you the details.  Ken’s contact details can be accessed through the Members Directory on the system.

Great golfing in the coming year.

Richard Oliver/President

 From the Treasurer

  • Reconciliation report received late on the 10th December. Current balance is approximately $102,000.  It should be noted several adjustments are required – expected balance is approximately $90,000.

From the Captains

  • Last Committee run comp will be this Saturday (12th December). Pro Comps will be run through to the 14th January – with the exception of the January Monthly Medal (7 January 2021).
  • Final women’s event to be played on 11 December – very positive comments reported on Facebook.

Grounds and Greens

  • Mark Hynes noted that he was talking to the Superintendent about cutting the Greens a little shorter and quickening them a little.
  • It was noted that there are weeds in some of the bunkers. These have very recently been sprayed.

Papers

Closeout arrangements and early book-in for the Committee and closeout volunteers

  • Richard presented a short paper outlining proposed changes to the current closeout arrangements. Agreed that with the growing use of MiScore only one person is needed to do closeout and so adjustments will be made to the roster.
  • With the increase in member numbers, it was agreed that Committee members can early book-in themselves and one. Volunteers will only be able to early book in themselves. This applies to all competitions (Committee and Pro Comps).

Members Handbook

  • Discussion re Members’ Handbook – Draft distributed by the Vice-Captain (Mike Hogben) prior to meeting for Committee members to review. We are aiming to upload to the Website by the end of the year or early in January.
  • Committee agreed that the Handbook will not be printed this year. Those that want a hard copy can print the .pdf version from the website.  This will save in print costs.  It was noted that in previous years when we printed the document a large number of hard copies not be taken by members.

Reciprocal Clubs

  • Richard led a short discussion on our current Reciprocal Clubs. A number of the existing clubs have been suggested for removal.  Jeff Turvey will review and come back to the next meeting with suggestions for new clubs to be approached and what clubs should be removed.  There was a view that taking a more regional approach might be better in terms of the clubs we have reciprocal rights with.

Capital Works Plan

  • Richard provided a short paper outlining the proposed Capital Works Plan for 2020/21. Committee members to review and come to the next meeting with their thoughts on proposed Capital projects

iPhone 5 and the use of MiScore

  • The Golf Manager noted that there is an issue with MiScore and iPhone 5s – Apple will no longer be providing security updates which will impact on MiScore. This impacts all apps on an iPhone 5 and older and is not specific to MiScore.  The Committee accepted members with phones on which MiScore would not work would need to use printed cards and lodge their scores via the new Kiosks.

For your information.

2020 Annual Report….

2020 Annual Report….

Members

A copy of the 2020 Annual Report is available for your review at this link: Annual Report 2020 – Final – WV .  Please note this is provided as a Word document as the .pdf version exceeded the permissible size limit for the upload. Any questions that you have regarding the report can be answered at the club’s AGM to be held on Tuesday night (24 November) commencing at the 7.00pm. in the Entice Room.  Earlier information noted the meeting would be held in the Spike Bar but Ainslie has asked that the meeting be held upstairs in the Entice Room so that attendance monitoring can be better managed.

A number of hard copies of this report will be available at the meeting.

Hope to see you at the meeting.
