Change to Nearest to Pin record keeping

Change to Nearest to Pin record keeping

Nearest to Pin
Following a recent trial, GLGC will introduce recording Nearest to the Pin via the MiScore App on Saturday, 5 April 2025. This will replace the current method of recording this information on cards located near each Par 3 green.  Note that the Pro Pin on the 17th will remain as a manual record kept on the Pro Pin Card, as we currently do.
Advantages

  • There will be no more hardware on the course.  We won’t need to put out NTP cards on each Par 3s, and hope the last group brings them in, providing they find them and/or are still legible. This will save so much time.
  • Names go directly to the leaderboard, which has a history that can be viewed/reviewed on the MiScore App during the round or in the Competition Leaderboard for admin.
  • Players can see from the tee how close the NTP is – it is recorded in the app.
  • At any time during your round, you can check back on each of the Par 3s to see who is the closest.

Only one person per group needs to use the MiScore app, and the following link indicates what you will see on the app.

The process for using the MiScore App is very similar to the current process, except that measurements will be recorded in the app rather than written on the NTP cards.

As for the current practice, using the flag stick, measurements must still be taken in centimetres (CM).

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or one of the Match Committee members.

Course Marking

Course Marking

GLGC has been working on updating the course markings to improve clarity, safety and reduce danger around our creeks and lakes.

Drop zones were restaked on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th ,5th, 10th, 12th 16th and 17th holes today, using star pickets which will hopefully last longer than the lightweight stakes used previously.  These are now more robust and wont get washed away in the next rainstorm.

The penalty area lines are due to be repainted next week.  The red paint will be visible for a month, and the ongoing lines will remain visible for at least 6 months.  You may notice some penalty areas move away from the waters edge.

This will:

  • Improve Greenskeeper safety – reducing the risk of mowers entering lakes
  • Minimise Erosion and try to prevent crumbling lake edges, protecting the course from degradation
  • Improve General player safety, as some pond edges are extremely steep and potentially hazardous.

Its important to note that mowing below these lines creates a hazard for greens staff, and puts the staff at a risk that the club is unwilling to take.
