On behalf of all members – past and present – the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club Committee has decided to dedicate a new seat in honour of one of our dedicated volunteers – Michael Brice. Bricey has been a stalwart of the golf club from its first year and has been a long standing member of the greens committee (since 1999). But there are two things he is most famously known for amongst the Glakes golfing community:
1. Scuba diving for his “lost” putter in the pond off the 17th green;
2. His tireless dedication to tree maintenance and conservation throughout the course.
I’ll skip over the first point (as there has been a Facebook article about this previously) and move on to the second.
Bricey is often seen sneaking his Holden onto the course and into some obscure (and not so obscure) location to fell a dangerous tree, snip an overhanging limb or simply thin out a strand of trees that are simply no longer required for the structure of the course.
The hours he dedicates is astounding and his work is first class. Rumour has it that his body is telling him to slow down onbthe heavy lifting – but once he hears the roar of a 2- stroke engine…..All his volunteer work is is truly appreciated.
Thank you Bricey, and I mean this from each and every member.
