GA Connect update – Change to Handicaps

GA Connect update – Change to Handicaps

As outlined in our previous communications, the transition to the Golf Australia CONNECT platform on 2 October 2025 will also see updates to the Australian Rules of Handicapping, aligning us with recent changes to the World Handicap System.

These changes are based on analysis of millions of playing rounds and have been tailored to Australian conditions to make competition fairer and handicaps more consistent and reflective of actual playing conditions.

The Four Key Changes

1. Consistency Factor introduced – Improves competition fairness through a new “Consistency Factor”, providing equity in Daily Handicap calculations for women and girls to reflect their greater consistency in scoring patterns compared to males.

2. Revised 9-hole formula – Ensures 9-hole Daily Handicaps more accurately reflect half of an 18-hole handicap.

3. Adjusted expected scores for holes not played – Uses statistical modelling instead of net par, providing a fairer outcome for incomplete rounds.

4. Refined ‘Daily Difficulty’ calculation (PCC) – More accurate recognition of difficult or easy days, back-calculated to 1 January 2023.

Impact on Your Members

  • Most golfers will see a small change to their GA Handicap on 2 October, projected to be less than 0.5 strokes on average. Some members may see a larger change depending on their unique scoring history.

·                     The updates will be applied automatically by Golf Australia’s system.

3 or 4 Person Ambrose 20 Sep 2025

3 or 4 Person Ambrose 20 Sep 2025

For those playing the Ambrose Event on Saturday – following is the “how to play” guide.

3 or 4 Person Ambrose

In an Ambrose event each team member tees off on every hole, in no specified order. After the initial tee shots, the best shot is selected, the ball is marked, and each team member then places their ball within one club length (no nearer the hole and in the same part of the course) and plays their next shot – on the green all shots must be played from within one card length (20cm) of the selected ball.

The event is played as stroke play event with the following calculation used for the team handicap, based on the combined daily handicap of the team, in addition a certain number of drives must be used per player, as per the following:

  • Teams of 3 – ⅙ of the combined handicap – 4 Drives per person
  • Teams of 4 – ⅛ of the combined handicap – 3 Drives per person

To speed up play, a circle has been drawn around the pin on each hole.  If the ball comes to rest within these circles, you can pick the ball and add one stroke ….. aka a “Gimme”.

Good luck and fun

Golf Connect Transition – Week 3 Newsletter

Golf Connect Transition – Week 3 Newsletter

We have now completed week 2 of the 4 week transition to GA Connect.

Again, most of the work has been “behind the scenes” setting up and checking data that has been imported to GA Connect.  This including course set up (ratings and indexes) and setting up stripe payment accounts.

Training from the LSPs for Administrators, in our case MiClub, commenced this week. The only significant change to date relates to closing out competitions and how we (Administrators) can access information about other, non GLGC, members – primarily so they can be booked into competitions.

A lot more information about the new GA Connect App and website will be available soon.
