2023 Men’s and Women’s Match play

The draw for the men’s and women’s match play will be conducted on Friday 21 April. The first round will be held on 29 April 2023.

There have been a few queries and requests about the timing of the first round. Hopefully this will answer some of your questions.

The draw for the event is done one week in advance of the first round and players entering the event do so based on the certainty of being available to play round 1 on the specified date. Allowing some players to play round 1 on a different date increases risk and uncertainty for all players entering. It becomes the luck of the draw as to whether you are paired up with a player that can play round 1 on the desired date or you get a player that cannot play on round 1. This increases the risk of defaults/delayed matches and disagreements as to when round 1 matches are played. The match committee has decreased the number of fixed date rounds from 2 to 1 to increase flexibility. If we were to only schedule events at times when other clubs do not have major events we would struggle to hold any honour board events at all.
 
The match committee will consider the timing of this event for future years, but for 2023 the date for the first round is fixed as 29 April.

If you are fortunate enough to be in one of the 1st groups (07:00 or 11:15) please remember that you are responsible for setting the pace for the entire field behind you.
The 07:00 group this morning finished in 4h30min which is completely unaccpetable given the fact that there was no one in front of them (also a Stableford event).
These are the issues that affect the rest of the field and the pace of playfor everyone. Please take the time to read up on how to speed up play (Splash article) and avoid slowing things down.

2023 Pennant Dinner

The 2023 Pennant Dinner will be held on Friday 19 May at 6:00pm at Gungahlin Lakes Club. This night has always been an enjoyable night where pennant players and their guests have celebrated their season. The night will commence with canapes in the Entice room followed by a main meal in the function room. A putting competition and other games will run throughout the night. We hope to see all the teams represented on the night, and the invitation is open to their guests and other members that are keen to celebrate the season.
