Would you like to represent Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club (GLGC) in next year’s
DGA Pennants competition?
The ACT Monaro DGA Pennants competition is a highly competitive, prestigious event which runs for several months in the first half of each year (usually February – April). Comprising teams of players from most clubs in the district, this competition is a great way to represent your club, improve your golfing ability, compete at the highest level of your ability, meet new people, and play on many other courses.
The format is ‘match play’ (don’t know what this is? ask a committee member!), with most matches on Sundays, and seniors (over 50) played on Thursdays. While the ideal match play competitor is someone able to play all 18 holes well, the format often favours those players who play (say) 15 or 16 holes well, but perhaps not so well on a few holes.
We are seeking nominations from members who are interested in representing GLGC in one of the men’s Pennant grades (Womens’ teams are being arranged by Janet Jenista):
- Division 1
- Division 2
- B Scratch
- Handicap
- Senior Handicap (Over 50yo; plus a separate Division for over 65yo)
- Juniors
(Note: GLGC is not nominating a team in the Senior Scratch Division for the 2024 Pennants competition as we are unable to secure a sufficient number of interested/competitive/available players).
Finalisation of teams
Each team is required to present six players for each competition round, plus an appropriate number of reserves.
We want to provide as much notice as possible to all players and commence preparations for the 2024 season, which is why we are seeking nominations now, even though the season commences in February next year. We will start firming up squad selections after the 2023 GLGC Club Championships
Things to note before nominating
Pennant representatives are provided with a club Pennant shirt. GLGC will only select players who are able to represent our club in a favourable light; those with a tough competitive spirit who are seen to be fair, reasonable and exhibit good sportsmanship. Players are required adhere to the GLGC code of conduct and behaviours at all times, and it should be no surprise that your behaviour in normal competition rounds is noticed and will be taken into account in team selections.
Interested? Please nominate now! Not 100% sure yet? Have a chat with a committee member, previous managers, players, or the Pennant Coordinator (Craig Farrell).
