Irrigation System enhancements

Irrigation System enhancements

Members will begin to notice Waterland working on the 2nd, 12th, 15th and 16th holes in the coming weeks. These works are the final enhancement works to ensure that the majority of the playing surface is irrigated. Over the past few years the committee has tasked itself with better irrigation coverage on tees, fairways as well as the first cut. Their work will mainly affect social play – so please be patient and ensure that they can see you when you are hitting toward them (golf balls hurt).

The GLGC committee is hosting an Information and Rules Night on Thursday 27 June in the Spike Bar.
New and existing members are encouraged to attend, ask questions and learn about the rules of GLGC, golf and there will be a forum to ask questions in general.
The bar will be open and games will be played. We have some amazing hosts in Fiona Wicks, Nicole Maher, Janet Jenista and others lined up and it is intended to be social, educational and fun.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to one of the GLGC committee members in person or comment on the GLGC Facebook page.

Passing of Greg O’Neill

Passing of Greg O’Neill

It is with great sadness that I report that long time member Greg O’Neill passed away yesterday after a long illness. Greg was a popular member for over 20 years and enjoyed a yarn in the Spike Bar. For those that never had the pleasure of a round of golf with Greg, you may have met him at the races as your friendly bookmaker. Greg resided on the course on the 9th hole, and in recent years would give his golf buddies a wave as they went by.

GLGC change to Women’s captaincy

GLGC change to Women’s captaincy
I would like to inform everyone that due to personal reasons I am stepping down as the Women’s Captain prior to the next AGM in November.

The committee has approved for Mel Flett to act as the next Women’s Captain from 1 August. I will be taking the time beforehand to hand over to Mel and prepare her for the position.
Then, at the next AGM the position will be declared vacant and will be up for nomination. At this stage Mel is very happy to put herself forward for the ongoing position, along with any others that may choose to nominate.

I would like to thank the women’s committee and the main committee for their continued support over the past 4 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed being the Women’s Captain and am now looking forward to seeing Mel continuing with the growth of women members at Gungahlin Lakes.

See you all out on the course soon.
Happy golfing!
Fiona Wicks, Women’s captain
